Mama Michelina - Her Story
 The picture of Mama Michelina that everyone sees today was taken when she was a Grandmamma. But her real story starts decades earlier when she was a beautiful young woman living in Bellisio Solfare, Italy. Michelina fell in love with a young man from her village, Ettore Paulucci. But when nearby sulfur mines closed, Ettore had to leave the village to find new work. Their love for each other was so strong that they decided to marry and travel to the new world - America!
The young couple moved to Minnesota where Ettore worked in the iron mines, and they had two children. Then the Great Depression hit. There was no work, no money. So to make ends meet, Mama Michelina looked to the one and only family treasure she brought with her from Italy - her old family recipes, handed down from generation to generation. Using those recipes, Michelina began cooking and catering, eventually opening a little grocery store in the front room of their home.
Michelina's authentic Italian cuisine proved extremely popular with her customers. She always used fresh, natural ingredients, never adding preservatives. She seemed to have a magic touch with herbs and spices. And so her little enterprise, and her family, survived.
Michelina's son, Jeno, carried on her legendary cooking tradition and went on to launch several worldwide food companies on his own.
Like a good son, he asked Michelina for the recipes and advice on how to create those special Mama Michelina flavours. And, like a loving son, he named the frozen entrees made from her recipes "Michelina's" in her honour. He even put her picture on every Michelina's package so that everyone will always remember her.
