Availability
Q: My local supermarket does not stock my favourite variety
of Michelina's. Where can I get it?
A: Frustrating, isn't it! Retailers have space constraints that sometimes prevent
them from ranging all Michelina's products in all supermarkets.
We maintain a database of where to buy our products just to the left in the "Where to Buy" section.
You can also contact us to see if the product is coming to a supermarket near you shortly.
Preparation
Q: I followed the cooking instructions and still found the
product to be cold; in fact some ingredients were still frozen?
A: Microwave ovens do vary. Our cooking directions have been developed based
on a 1100watt oven.
If you found your meal cold, increase the heating time in 30 second increments
until the desired level of warmth is achieved.
If your microwave is more powerful than 1100 watts, heat for 1 minute less than
the directions, then check the temperature. Continue to heat in 30 second increments
until the meal reaches the desired level of warmth.
Q: Can I prepare my Michelina's® in the oven?
A: Please refer to the package for specific cooking instructions. At the present
time all of our meals may be prepared in a conventional oven.
Nutrition
Q: Do you have any low fat Michelina's®?
A: Yes, we've made our Lean Gourmet range in Australia low fat - at least 97% Fat
Free.
Michelina's Lean Gourmet range is also low in Cholesterol, Low in Saturated Fat and low in Trans Fat and now also come with the Heart Foundation Tick of approval.
Meals with the Heart Foundation Tick have met strict standards for saturated fat, sodium and fibre.
Allergens
Q: I am extremely allergic to peanuts. Are your products 'nut
free'?
A: Nuts (peanuts and tree nuts) are not included in any Michelina's recipe available
for sale in Australia. We have some meals which do contain known allergens.
If you have an allergy, please refer to the list of ingredients in order to
determine whether or not the meal contains any ingredients which may be of concern
to you. Ingredients are listed in order according to the level of content.
Q: Do you have any gluten free meals available?
A: The great majority of our meals contain pasta of one form or another. By
their nature, all of the pasta products contain gluten. Because of the pervasiveness
of pasta in our operation, and the varying degrees of individual sensitivity
to gluten, we cannot guarantee or claim that any of our products are "gluten
free".
General
Q: Why do I sometimes find ice crystals on the top of the
product when I open it?
A: There is no health risk associated with product containing some formation
of ice crystals. Ice crystals form naturally on frozen foods.
Q: I'm concerned my meal has freezer burn. Is it still okay
to eat?
A: If a food gets freezer burnt, it is still safe to eat. Freezer burn is the
result of some moisture loss, resulting in dry spots, which can happen over
time. The surface of the food appears dry, indicating loss of moisture. For
any freezer burned areas, simply cut away the portions which are dry, either
before or after cooking the food.
Q: Is it safe to heat and eat my Michelina's® meal once
it is thawed?
A: We do not recommend preparing any meal once thawed. The quality and food
safety of the product may be at risk depending on the thawing process. We recommend
that you dispose of any meal which has been allowed to completely thaw. If you
are unsure, please err on the side of safety, throwing out partially thawed
foods to avoid food illness.
Q: Can I re-use the Tray or Bowl?
A: No. We do not recommend re-using our trays or bowls, as they were not designed
as permanent containers, but for single use only.
Q: Is the Tray or Bowl recyclable?
A: Our trays and bowls are made from CPET, and are marked with SPI code #1,
suitable for recycling. This material was chosen for its superior performance
in the microwave.
Unfortunately, not all areas recycle all materials. You are best to check in
your local area.
Q: Do you have a family size Michelina's®?
A: No. Our meals are available in single serve sizes only.
